چکیده

Peridynamics (PD) is a nonlocal continuum theory capable of handling fracture mechanisms with ease. However, its use involves high computational costs. On the other hand, Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF) allows one to one-dimensional high-order finite elements, resulting in excellent accuracy while improving efficiency. To address cost solving problems, coupling technique between these two theories necessary. Various approaches have been proposed couple peridynamic grids element meshes literature. most are affected by arbitrary choices blending functions and tuning parameters or exhibit spurious effects at interfaces. overcome issues, we propose simple based on overlapping PD/CUF regions continuity displacement field This approach verified through static analysis classical beams thin-walled structures applications aerospace industry.

Coupling 1D Beams to 3D Bodies

A new technique for coupling one dimensional beam elements to three dimensional bodies is described. The essence of the problem is to ensure compatibility of the displacements at the interface. This is achieved by equating the work done at the dimensional interface by the 3D nodes with the work done at the 1D node. This is carried out in a manner similar to that used in the development of Reiss...

For the ANSYS CFD codes CFX and Fluent coupling links to several 1D codes exist allowing for a wide range of multi-physics applications. As an example, a flexible coupling infrastructure in terms of supported multiphysics coupling conditions between ANSYS CFX and LMS AMESim is outlined. Examples of the wide range of coupling solutions of ANSYS CFD (CFX and Fluent) and coupled 1D-3D applications...

Coupling methodology of 1D finite difference and 3D finite volume CFD codes based on the Method of Characteristics

This paper describes the methodology followed to perform a co-simulation between 1D (OpenWAM) and 3D (FLUENT) CFD codes. The Method of Characteristics (MoC) has been chosen to transfer the information between the two domains by properly updating the boundary condition at the shared interface. A short explanation of the MoC is provided, including the modifications needed by the Riemann invariant...

Finite size effects on crack front pinning at heterogeneous planar interfaces: Experimental, finite elements and perturbation approaches

Understanding the role played by the microstructure of materials on their macroscopic failure properties is an important challenge in solid mechanics. Indeed, when a crack propagates at a heterogeneous brittle interface, the front is trapped by tougher regions and deforms. This pinning induces non-linearities in the crack propagation problem, even within Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics theory...

Coupling of Mixed Finite Elements and Boundary Elements

The symmetric coupling of mixed nite element and boundary element methods is analysed for a model interface problem with the Laplacian. The coupling involves a further continuous ansatz function on the interface to link the discontinuous displacement eld to the necessarily continuous boundary ansatz function. Quasi-optimal a priori error estimates and sharp a posteriori error estimates are esta...
